Evolving the Organisation’s Purpose
In machine organisations a great deal of time and effort is spent producing strategic plans with the intention to guide and co-ordinate activities designed to deliver success in a predicted future. In the VUCA world within which we now operate, these strategic plans become out of date as soon as they are published.
In ecosystem organisations, instead trying to predict the future, leaders continually listen to what the organisation wants to become and facilitate its unfolding. The purpose of the organisation, and its realisation, then continually evolves in line with society and the markets within which it operates.
To enable leaders to continually evolve their organisation’s purpose we employ techniques drawn from Theory U, developed by Otto Scharmer, Senior Lecturer at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and co-founder of the Presencing Institute. In doing so, we train, guide and support leaders to progress through co-initiating, co-sensing, presencing, co-creating and co-evolving.
